According to an article by student Abraham Shapiro in the 1952 Massachusetts College of Optometry yearbook, The Scope was organized as a self-sustaining periodical written and published by and for the student body. “Its subject matter included articles, solicited from [persons] in the various fields associated with or in optometry, class items, and an almost perpetual series of editorials expressing the feelings of the students concerning the big controversy of the day – professionalism vs. commercialism.”
